The Cub Scout Academics and Sports program (aka Belt Loops & Pins) is a supplemental enrichment program that complements the existing Cub Scout program. The Academics subjects and Sports activities allow boys to learn new techniques, increase scholarship skills, develop sportsmanship, and have fun. Emphasis is on introducing a boy to a sport or academic subject, allowing him to participate in it, and encouraging him to do his best. The program focuses on learning and skill development — not winning. Boys participating in the program will be recognized for enjoying teamwork, developing physical fitness, and discovering and building new talents.
Belt Loops: There are three specific requirements for each belt loop. As a Cub Scout completes these requirements, he is encouraged to do his best to learn about the activity. Requirements can be completed: individually or with the family, in the den or pack, or in the school. Each is earned only once during a boys years as a Cub Scout.
Pins: Once a boy has earned the belt loop, he may choose to stop; however, some boys will want to continue with the activity. For each pin there are numerous options to select from when completing additional requirements.
Below are many files to assist den leaders and parents in completing belt loop and pin requirements from the Academics and Sports supplemental enrichment program. Note that the resources below do not necessarily cover all of the requirements for a specific belt loop or pin, den leaders should refer to the handbook for the program which includes details on the all of the requirments. Information regarding requirements is also available here.
