Pinewood Derby

The pinewood derby is one of the most popular and successful family activities in Cub Scouting. Pinewood derby cars are small wooden models that boys make with help from their families and then race in competition. The cars are powered by gravity and run down a regulation track. The pinewood derby is an annual event held each January.

Blue & Gold Banquet

Most Cub Scouts celebrate Scouting Anniversary Week with a celebration called the Blue & Gold banquet. The annual banquet, which is the pack meeting for February, is the highlight of the year. It brings families together for an evening of fun and inspiration.

The purpose of the Blue & Gold banquet is to celebrate the pack's anniversary, recognize the achievements of the Cub Scouts, recognize pack leaders and other adults who have been instrumental in the pack's success, and inspire the leaders, Scouts, and parents. Packs often like to invite former members and other Scouting or community leaders to take part in the annual Blue & Gold banquet.

The banquet program is planned to appeal to boys as well as adults. The evening is something different and a little more special than a monthly pack meeting. The pack brings in outside entertainment, such as a magician or storyteller. The banquet also includes the presentation of awards and rank badges, and the Arrow of Light ceremony.

Overnight

Each year, usually in March, the pack participates in an overnight event for Cub Scouts and their families. Past locations have included Battleship Cove, a Children's Museum, Southwicks Zoo, and the Museum of Science in Boston.

Other Events

Cub Scouts and their families also have the opportunity to participate in many other pack events throughout the year. Most of the funding for the pack comes from three annual fundraisers - the Popcorn Sale in the fall, the Wreath Sale during the holiday season, and the Pack Yard Sale. Community service activities include Scouting for Food each November and the Town Beach Clean-up in April. Other activities during past years have included Rocket Launch, Fishing Derby, Bowling, PawSox game & campout (sleep in tents right on the field!), and the local Memorial Day Parade.
